Apple announced its first Mac OS X security updates for 2010 which will fix at least 12 serious vulnerabilities. The kind of vulnerabilities that Apple would have you believe only happen on a PC. Classics like malicious code execution from tampered audio files (mp4), spiked TIFF files and SSL shenanigans to name a few. To be fair, half the updates deal with vulnerabilities generated by the Adobe Flash Player plug-in. At some point, Adobe plug-ins turned into PC and Mac ‘friendly’ cootie infested whores that allow naughty code execution from infected Web sites. Hi, I am a Mac – now STFU and patch! Maybe at some point the Faithful will realize that despite the cool Beatles logo and sexxay facade, its just a computer with all the implied flaws and security holes… And now, if you listen very carefully, you can hear the sobbing of nefarious hackers and representatives of various three letter organizations. Click here for details on the Apple security patch.

This is a quick how-to on Windows GodMode (or God Mode) for Windows 7 and Windows Vista (32-bit). For those of you new to GodMode for Windows… it is a very cool trick to get all of your operating systems control panels in a single magic folder.

Read on for details of how to use this sweet feature.

When you create this new GodMode folder in Windows 7 or Windows Vista (32-bit) you will have a very clean single page to manage everything from hard-drive partitions to network settings to mouse settings.

To get the GodMode up and working… create a new folder (anywhere you like… I prefer the desktop) and name it exactly as listed below;

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once you have created the folder it will change to an icon looking like a control panel and will contain tons of controls/options for you to tweak. Enjoy.

If you have worked with Windows PC’s for a bit… you are most likely familiar with the blue screen of death. You know the one… looks like DOS and has a blue background with white text that says something like, “A problem has been detected on your computer, you are screwed…”.

I guess Microsoft got tired of getting razzed for the “blue screen of death”… so there is a new kid in town “the black screen of death”. So…. if you get the Black Screen what to do? Read on for how to fix the black screen of death.

It looks like the November 10th Microsoft patch (a security update) is causing some computers to have the black screen which causes your PC to freeze up and removes everything (sometimes it will leave the My Computer window).

Microsoft made changes to the Access Control List (ACL), the permissions list your computer uses for logged-on users. The ACL interacts with registry keys, creating visible desktop features. Well… looks like the latest patches appear to edit those registry keys. In layman’s terms… this means that stuff doesn’t load or run properly and you get a black screen.

The best part is the Windows black screen of death doesn’t discriminate… it can cause problems on Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

“Microsoft is investigating reports that its latest release of security updates is resulting in system issues for some customers. Once we complete our investigation, we will provide detailed guidance on how to prevent or address these issues.”

Now that you are informed… on to how to fix the Microsoft black screen problem.

Prevx, a UK security company that discovered the issue, released both step-by-step instructions and a download to eliminate the Black Screen of Death.

iMac Changes

The new iMac’s are mostly aluminum and have the edge-to-edge glass. New iMac’s will come in 21.5 (1,920 x 1,080) and 27-inch (2,560 x 1,440) models, each with a 16:9 HD aspect ratio. More powerful processors, an SD Card reader, and the ability to go up to 2TB on the biggest unit.

MacBook Changes

Apples best selling laptop, the 13-inch MacBook, got a going over as well. The laptop is keeping it’s white polycarbonate shell and $999 price tag.

The polycarbonate case is copying the MacBook pro’s unibody chassis style and rounding off the sharp edges. The touchpad is similar to the one found on MacBook Pro’s as well.

Mouse and Keyboard Changes

The wireless keyboard and mouse now come standard with the iMac and have both been redesigned. The keyboard is now all aluminum (body). The mouse (called the Magic Mouse for some reason) now uses a touch capacitive similar to a trackpad. You can use the two buttons or drag your finger down the middle of the mouse to scroll.

My favorite part is that Microsoft keeps getting fatter and slower not Apple the new OS X Snow Leopard uses 7GBs less hard drive space than Leopard.
