Remember the Skully AR-1 Smart Helmet that was taking preorders, just like this one? Skully was going to be the first smart helmet but ended in scandal. To be clear, I am not comparing the two companies other than the fact that they are both trying to develop smart helmets...

PrintBrushXDR

Imagine being able to take almost any design or text and instantly print it on most surfaces. Want to label put your name on your kids underwear, label your scrapbook, add your logo to a cardboard box, etc… The PrintBrush XDR can take a design from your smartphone wirelessly and lay it down in full color on all kinds of surfaces (paper, cardboard, fabrics, wood, etc.). You simply drag the printer across your surface and it quickly lays down color prints.

Thanks to built-in sensors and intelligent software, the imprint will always be correct independently of the direction or the speed of a user’s hand movement. You can go as slow or as fast as you want. You can even stop in the middle of the printout: the PrintBrush XDR delivers accurate and reliable results.

Currently the PrintBrush XDR lives on KickStarter and isn’t fully funded. Fingers crossed they make it and the product works as good as the demo.

MarkRober_Bait_Package

There have been plenty of booby trapped bait packages set out for unsuspecting porch thieves, but this one takes the cake. Mark Rober, who is pretty crafty in the shop designed the ultimate booby trapped bait box using a bunch of tech.

This package starts off with an Apple HomePod box, a 3d printed frame, four phones for GPS and video recording, a pound of fine glitter that spins out in all directions, and (my favorite) a fart spray device. Genius. Watch this video, after the break, showing porch pirates getting destroyed. (more…)

Last week was a massive user-data breach. This week Facebook enters smart display business with Portal, a wireless speaker, camera, LCD, and Alexa integrated gadget. Great timing Facebook! I think I will take a solid pass on Facebook having an open microphone and camera in my home. I will be massively surprised if this product succeeds at gaining mass user adoption. Ask yourself if you trust Facebook with this type of device in your home. I certainly don’t. There will be two Portal configurations: a 10.1-inch 720p version ($200),...

My two main gripes about RC drones are around battery life and wireless range. Even the new DJI’s with all of their improvements in battery life and range, still have me wrapping up flights in under 30 minutes. If the tech keeps improving I may not have to wait too much longer. Fingers crossed.

Or… I could buy a Parrot DISCO today – swap out some batteries and mod the wireless signal to work over the 4G LTE cellular network. That means, flight times over an hour with range only limited by battery life and cellular signals. The mod is from UAVPAL and can be found here.

The leaks and rumors were pretty accurate this year. Apple launched a handful of new phones packed with new technology and some new colors. Oh, and some awful naming conventions (XS, XR, and XS Max). They also launched the Series 4 Watch with a 35% larger screen while both the 40 and 44mm are thinner. The backs of the watches are a thing of beauty and are made of sapphire crystal and black ceramic. Apple has also managed to add much more information (complications) the the face of the screen. The Series 4 Watch has doubled down on health...

Impossible US-1 Drone Clear

Impossible Aerospace claims they have a drone hitting the market in Q4 of 2018 with a two hour flight time. The main structure of the US-1 is full of batteries which is why they have longer than average flight times.

The Impossible US-1 ($7,500 for basic and $9,500 for thermal) comes in a few flavors. Most of the differences are around the camera type (FLIR).

Flight details and telemetry are still unknown but we do have some specs. Details after the break.  (more…)
