I love the simplicity and cost effectiveness of reel style push powered mowers. It just makes sense… you get a workout, use no fossil fuels, and don’t have to wake the neighbors. One of the drawbacks is when you hit a thick patch of grass and have to attack it 3 times to make it through… too much working out for me. The Fiskars Momentum Reel Mower solves the problem with their InertiaDrive Technology which stores energy with a type of flywheel.

2X More Cutting Power: Delivers twice the energy to power through small twigs, weeds, or dense grass that would jam other reel mowers.

30% Easier to Push: Advanced technologies reduce cutting system friction, provide optimal blade positioning and deliver extra cutting power to reduce push force by 30% in long grass.

Moshi or Moshi-Moshi means “Hello” in Japanese. It is also used to get someone’s attention like “Psssst!”, “Hey”, “Hey You”, etc. Well, the Moshi Voice Control Travel Alarm Clock sure got my attention. I am not much of a wake-up-when-the-alarm-goes-off kind of person, but if I have to be woken up by an alarm clock, it would probably be by this one. It is simple to use with quick setup and it REALLY talks with a very soothing, female voice (not sure if they have one with gruff-sounding male voice). With its small size, it makes an excellent travelling companion – just throw it in your overnight bag and take it anywhere you go.

The Moshi Voice-Activated Alarm Clock follows simple voice commands like TIME, SET TIME, ALARM, SET ALARM and more. It even tells you the TEMPERATURE. Just make sure you speak into the microphone clearly - if you don’t, the lady inside the alarm clock can be a little sassy and will give you a litany of acceptable commands.

Another neat thing is that the actual alarm sound is not your typical heart-attack-inducing BLARING sound. It starts up low and it gradually gets louder until you hit that snooze/off button. I’d say it’s a very considerate alarm clock. And you have three different alarm sounds to choose from.

So if you don’t want to be woken by something close to having water splashed into your face, dogs barking, cats-in-heat, fire alarm, or your stepmother’s knuckles being rubbed against your head – try the Moshi Voice-Activated Alarm Clock.

Let me start off this review by saying that Scosche has hit a home run with their solBAT II solar powered backup battery and charger. There really isn’t much I would change on this solar powered gadget. Read on for the full review.

Scosche solBAT2 Review

Considering that just about everyone is toting around some battery powered gadget (iPhone, Blackberry, Droid, iPod, etc…) these days, an extra “off grid” battery charger is a nice gadget to have when a wall socket or computer isn’t available. Add the fact that this “off grid” battery charger is solar powered and you had me at hello. Perfect for camping, long flights, etc…

The Scosche solBAT II has a full 1500mA lithium-ion battery capacity and managed to bring my nearly empty iPhone 3G to full capacity rather quickly with some extra juice left over. The standard type A USB adapter outputs 5V at 500mA. The solBAT 2 gives you plenty of charging options… you can plug it in to your USB port on your computer, or go solar by hanging it off of your backpack via the included carabiner clip, or drop it in to the clear plastic cradle which has suction cups for window charging.

Good

The Scosche solBAT ii is very portable measuring just 1.9 x 5.4 x 8.5 inches and only 5.6 ounces.

Excellent clear suction cupped cradle for car or house windows.

Carabiner clip for clipping on… well just about anything.

Great battery capacity at 1500mA (5v; 500mA, lithium-ion).

Super common USB type A female adapter

Fair price point at under $20 here.

Bad (not much really)

The battery charging time via solar could be quicker… but then the solar panel would have to be much larger. If the device was larger it wouldn’t have the portable size that I love so much. It currently takes about 4-5 days of good sun to fully charge via solar.

Looks like another iPhone app that I want has hit the market. Trapster’s 4.0 release helps users log roadtrips, find friends, locate speed traps, rockslides, roadkill, etc… The beauty of the Trapster app is that is i database that is user updated so if a new speed trap pops up you will know about it. Read on for a review of some of the best features after the break.

We’ve Got A Great Big Convoy

Driving a Uhaul truck and a Honda from Texas to Illinois, with just two vehicles, it’s amazing how many times we nearly lost each other. Though this isn’t a feature most people will use every day, this updated version of Caravan lets users add "friends" and track where they are or going while exchanging directions, points of interest, audio, et cetera.

It’s perfect for caravanning or road rallying because one user can send a message to an entire group. This could also work well for bikers, urban hikers, or other large groups of iPhone-equipped travelers. Plus, it’s a good way to avoid people you don’t want to see.

Uh-Oh, Here Comes The 5-0

Among the app’s users is Texas’s Travis County Sheriff’s Department, which Trapster discovered was entering in their own traps before they went out to try and pop speeders. Why? According to sheriff’s deputy Tom Carpenter, "If I can get my compliance without writing a ticket, I’ve done my job."

If there’s a speed trap logged by a known law enforcement official, it’ll show up with a custom graphic, seen above, so drivers will know how close they are to getting busted. We’ve fooled around with it between Houston and Austin (the latter is in Travis County), and it worked exceptionally well, giving advance notice of impending speed traps as well as detailed traffic information.

Track Your Roadtrip In Real Time

The days of geotagging your photos, loading your trip points into Google Maps by hand, and then posting all the info to Facebook are over. Trapster’s "My Trips" feature will track your journey and automatically upload any photos, video, or notes you take along the journey to a custom map online that you can share with friends. See a great roadside attraction or stop at a delicious restaurant? You can mark it for future reference. We can think of a million uses for this, both professional and personal. You can see a sample trip here.

Watch Out For That Dead Armadillo!

In addition to pointing out county mounties, Trapster 4.0 adds a few new road hazards to the reporting list. These range from helpful alerts about scenarios like road closures or construction zones to notifications of things like brush fires and roadkill.

You can download Trapster for at the iPhone App Store, Blackberry App World, Palm software store or at their site.
