Cars, boats, planes, busses, helicopters and the like are getting electrified. It makes sense, assuming we can recycle all of the batteries. Another vehicle is about to join the electric party – the backhoe loader. The construction company, Case, has introduced the first fully electric backhoe loader named Project Zeus (or 580 EV). The Case 580...

Jotun HullSkater Cleaning Robot

Things in the water tend to get algae, barnacles, mussels, etc… growing on them. With boats, this biofouling is a problem because it makes ships less efficient. A less efficient boat goes slower, uses more fuel, and expels more exhaust. Not good.

Additionally, some of these hitchhiking organisms end up traveling with the boat to non-native areas where they cause other issues.

Enter Jotun, a Norwegian company, who collaborated with a Swedish company, Semcon, to develop the HullSkater robot. The HullSkater is designed to work with a proprietary silyl acrylate-based hull coating. Once a ship has this coating the hull scrubbing robot can get to work using its four magnetized wheels. Each wheel has its own motor.

The craziest part of this robot is that it isn’t autonomous or ship controlled – instead, it is controlled remotely by Jotun staff. The remote staff use the HullSkater’s three cameras and four spotlights.

Check out the funny video after the break. (more…)

This product caught my eye because of the neat/silliness of it all and the amazingly bad English. Whether you drive for Uber/Lyft or just want to pimp the interior of your car this one is worth a look. You simply plug in this LED car projector, place it somewhere near the center of your car (they recommend the armrest), and let the party begin. Now on to the best part… the English marketing copy. Here are a few of my favorites; gorgeous...

The personal mobility scooter company, Segway, is now going after the powersports market with a street bike (pictured above), off-road 4-wheelers, and an electric dirt bike. The latest announcement and unveiling is of the Segway Apex which will have a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds. Other than those specs, much is unknown. ...

Looks like the Stator Fat Wheel Electric Scooter (Launch Edition) is finally available for pre-order. Let’s get the obvious good bits out of the way – this scooter looks amazing, it has a range of up to 80 miles, a top speed of 30 mph, disc brakes, fat tires, a slick handlebar display, and LED lighting. Looks great. Let’s hope this thing performs as good as it looks because the marketing material smells a bit fishy. Here are some of my cringe-worthy favorites. Engineering is an art and we’re perfecting it …world’s...

For most, this post will not apply. For those with trucks and trailers – this is a game-changer. Gone are the days of having to hardwire a clunky brake controller inside of your tow vehicle. The Curt 51180 Echo plugs into your standard 7-way connector and communicates with your smartphone via an app. From the Curt Echo app, you can control brake sensitivity, braking power, and store several profiles. This setup becomes super powerful for...
