Bergmönch – Bike Transforms From Backpack To Downhill Bike

Bergmonch Mountain Monk Bike

Folding bikes are typically great at being packed away, but a bit crappy at being good riding bikes.  Not really surprising considering the bike has hinges and needs to be able to fold-up.  Well, take everything you know about folding bikes and start over.

Read on for details and pictures.

The Bergmonch, which means “The Mountain Monk” in German is a folding downhill bike.  The bike weighs only 9.5Kg, has hydraulic disc brakes, and full suspension.  One big thing missing is pedals, or any propulsion system at all.  It is made for downhill only.  Kinda like a fancy downhill scooter.

The design uses a telescopic framework and removable steering wheel to achieve its compact folded form and has carrying capacity for 12 liters of cargo. In backpack mode it includes a net for helmet and the larger front wheel sits at the top to provide better weight distribution.
