DJ Hero

Looks like folks behind the Guitar Hero franchise (Activision/Red Octane) have added a new trick to their bag with a little help from their friends.  Welcome DJ Hero which has help and music from the likes of Jay-Z and Eminem.  Available for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Is DJ Hero all it is hyped up to be?  Read our DJ Hero review after the break.

DJ Hero is similar to Guitar Hero in that you can figure the game out in a few minutes, but never really master the game.  You have 3 buttons, a crossfader, effects knob, and a turntable (instead of a guitar).  More plastic instruments for your living room.

The tutorials are helpful and the best part, they feature a hip hop icon Grandmaster Flash.  The game is pretty easy to get started beginning with easy, graduating to beginner, then heading to medium, hard and expert (medium is as far as I have gotten)  In the few hours I have played the game I am able to average 4 to 5 stars on medium level without too much difficulty.  But I am just sticking to the basics.

DJ Hero Turntable

The controller took me a bit of time to get comfortable with, but it is well designed.  The turntable is free-spinning and has the three colored buttons on the record top as well as a crossfader, euphoria button (for activating star power), and an effects knob.  You can flip the setup for left or right handed scratchers.  The The turntable is well weighted and feels significant and well built (unlike some of the guitar hero bits).

 DJ Hero Artists

There are 102 songs in DJ Hero and 93 new original mixes made from theses songs.  Just like the Guitar Hero you will be able to find something you like.  Some artists include Foo Fighters, Eminem, Jay-Z, Queen, Justice, Noisia, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Shadow, Killers, Eric Prydz, 50 Cent, David Bowie, Beastie Boys, Blondie, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, and more.

All-in-all we love DJ Hero and think the game and gear are well put together.  Activision (Red Octane) will definitely have a hit on their hands with this game.  The music is great, the sweeping camera shots of the DJ's and crowd are awesome.
