I happen to live on the west coast and get to drive by the shipping docks from time-to-time, one thing that I notice is there is no shortage of shipping containers. In fact they tend to stack up on our shores, and ultimately get shipped back to China empty, because of our large trade deficit.
Well it looks like more than a few companies are cashing in on the extra shipping containers and using them for building new homes and offices. One such company is Ecotechdesign out of Los Angeles, CA. The shipping containers are structurally very strong, tend to pass inspections in a hurry, and if built right last for a long time.
More pictures and video after the break.
This is a great looking home.
However I would like to know why Architects insist to talking like the “invented” these types of concepts – there is nothing new about container homes, in fact we have been teaching owner builders to DIY for over 5 years and there is 20 years history here.
People come along with a bigger budget ( this particular one cost $460,000 for a one bedroom home ) and feel they invented the idea.
