Hard to believe how efficient quality LED lighting has become. The latest mega installation of LED lighting will occur at the University of Phoenix Stadium for the upcoming Super Bowl. The upgrade is courtesy of Cree and Ephesus Lighting and will use 44,928 Cree XLamp MK-R LED’s. Long story short, it will take 310,000 watts of power as opposed to the typical 1.24 million watts used by the old metal halide bulbs.
Energy savings isn’t the only benefit. The LED bulbs produce double the illumination of the metal halide bulbs, don’t require a 20 minute warm up, and need less air conditioning as they run cooler. This is better for the fans, players, and cameras. Can’t wait to see it in action.
