Princess Leia needed R2-D2. You need a 4-inch cube. Holoneo from Hong Kong startup Theodots floats the time, weather, stock charts, and song lyrics in the air above your desk – no glasses, no headset, no fog machine. Kickstarter early birds started at about $99. The big honest caveat up front: we could not confirm a ship date or an open retail pre-order.
How the floating trick works
Theodots calls it medium-free air imaging. Inside the cube, a display shines up through a composite micron-level prism array that re-forms the image in open air above the unit. Nothing to look through and nothing to fog up – the picture just appears to hover. Theodots quotes a 60-degree viewing range and says it holds up in daylight. Call it a hologram at parties; technically it is a very clever floating image.
What it floats
- Clock and weather – glanceable conditions with little animated sun, cloud, and rain scenes
- Stocks, tasks, and timers – swipe up a chart, a to-do list, or a countdown
- Floating lyrics – Music Mode puts song lyrics in mid-air, and the cube doubles as a Bluetooth speaker
- Your own stuff – photos and short videos of pets, family, or 3D models loaded from microSD
- AI assistant – ask out loud and get spoken ChatGPT answers back
Wave at it, talk to it
A front gesture sensor handles navigation – swipe to move between screens, push to select – and a built-in mic and speaker cover voice. No touchscreen to smudge, which is good, because there is no screen to touch. Developers get an open ESP32 platform for custom dashboards, smart home widgets, and 3D avatars.

Price, Kickstarter, and the shipping question
Holoneo ran on Kickstarter from November 18 to December 18, 2025 and blew past a tiny HK$10,000 goal – the live page now shows about HK$346,000 (roughly US$44,000) from 362 backers. Early bird units started at about $99, with a four-pack tier around $396. Theodots says tooling is complete and small-batch engineering builds checked out.
Here is what we cannot tell you: when a new buyer gets one. The campaign timeline targeted shipping to backers in January 2026, but we found no public confirmation of fulfillment, no Holoneo listing on the Theodots store, no Amazon listing, and no open pre-order. Treat that $99 as campaign pricing, not a shelf price.
Caveats before you float your stock portfolio
The floating effect is angle-dependent – hands-on coverage says it looks best within a fairly narrow vertical sweet spot. The ChatGPT assistant needs your own OpenAI API key (and whatever usage that bills you), setup runs through a basic browser page over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and custom media gets loaded by microSD while an official app is still in the works. Theodots discloses AI use in its visuals and says its renders are meant “to represent what the human eye sees,” so judge the real thing by hands-on video like the one above.
More desk toys with personality: SwitchBot Obboto, the pixel-art Divoom TimeBox Evo, and the Autonomous Lamp.
