Philadelphia is installing 500 BigBelly solar powered trash compacting garbage cans… this move is expected to save the city around $12.9 million over the next 10 years.
The BigBelly trashcans only need to be emptied about 3 times per week instead of 19 times per week. The city will only need 8 workers, instead of 33, to empty the newly compacted trash. The best part… the trash cans contact the city when they need to be emptied. I love gadgets! See it in action after the break.
