We have seen the portable fireplace before… and it seems the trend is catching on. The fireplaces burn denatured alcohol/ethanol and do not need any venting or chimney. I imagine you will smell some of the fuel, but they claim to be eco-friendly.
The main advantage I see, as I can’t imagine you will be getting tons of heat, is that they look cool and aren’t too expensive (in general).
