While a bike lock might protect your ride from a casual/opportunistic bike thief, it won't stop someone who really wants to steal it. Short of keeping your bike stored safely indoors, there aren't too many great options. Well not yet, anyways. Another KickStarter project, BikeSpike, is trying to get funded and become a reality.
To be honest, I am getting a bit frustrated with all of the great KickStarter projects. Why? Because there are so many great ideas that aren't "real" products yet. In other words, I want to buy these products now. As in today! With that said, I think the BikeSpike is worth signing up and waiting for. Read on for details about the BikeSpike GPS tracker,

So what exactly is the BikeSpike? It is a GPS tracker made for bicycles (but it could be put on/in just about anything), a tamper alerting system (uses an accelerometer), an exercise tracker (with social site sharing), a lost bike recovery tool for law enforcement, a crash alert system, and more.
The BikeSpike also needs a cellular data plan ($6.99 to $12.99 per month) to relay all of this cool data to your iPhone, and law enforcement. If you sign up now you get a cheaper rate plan for being an early adopter "“ $3.99 to $7.99. The cool part is the carbon fiber bottle cage that helps conceal the BikeSpike from the bad guys. I signed up for one and can't wait to catch my first bike thief.
