Next up New Orleans… and just in time for the freak show that is Halloween. But first we had to stop by the National WWII Museum. Glad we did. The museum does a good job educating you about WWII, but also gave us both a better understanding of how much tougher the older generations were/are. We got nothing on these old folks.
New Orleans, specifically the Bourbon Street area, is a fun and crazy place that has some of the best people watching around. Especially on Halloween. We saw some funny costumes and put up the pictures that were PG13. One funny story (Steve might not think it is too funny) about our friend Lady Karma. We were sitting in a tiny establishment with an open front… perfect for watching the people as they walked buy. Just in front of where we were sitting was a pothole where the street meets the sidewalk. People kept stepping in the hole… long story short… Steve thought it was his own comedy show. Fast forward 1 hour. Guess who steps in the hole and rolls their ankle pretty bad? See picture of Steve’s ankle.
Not to make the New Orleans post too long, but my college buddy Matt flew out at this location and joined us for the next 5 days. He picked a good spot to join the road trip. We had a blast in New Orleans and ate like kings. I think Matt spent about $20 on beads. Hmmm.
Next up Georgetown Texas to see the Inner Space Caverns. Not sure any of us typically get excited about hanging out in caves, but this one was pretty amazing. This particular cave was accidentally discovered by the roads department in 1963 while constructing Interstate 35. The caves have over 1.2 miles of area that the public can explore. Neat stuff.
We then settled in Austin Texas at a cool downtown condo (Thanks Grace). The condo had a great location for walking to food, etc… and also a laundry machine which is important when being on the road this long. If you are ever in the area swing by the Handlebar. It is a cool bar that has a rooftop patio with a HUGE Jenga game and a teeter-totter. Wandered the streets quite a bit and enjoyed watching drunk people try and ride the mechanical bull at The Trophy Room. Very entertaining because this mechanical bull wasn’t your ordinary (boring) ride. The guy controlling it could make it hop and bump to the beat… quite funny.
We are home now but still behind on updates. A few more to go… hang in there. Thanks for watching! Pictures after the break.
