TL-WR841N Router Review

At first glance it is easy to dismiss a 300Mbps wireless N router as garbage when it has a $19.99 price tag.  Luckily for the consumers the TP-LINK TL-WR841N N300 Wireless N Router is a great little router.  Read on for the TL-WR841N review.

TL-WR841N Rear Ports

The individual user reviews don’t lie… and this little router has a bunch of fans… read those customer reviews here.  Sure it isn’t going to have a mind boggling list of configurable features like a $200 router, but it will work for most small businesses and home offices.  This 300Mbps Wireless N Router TL-WR841N has both wired and wireless network connections.   The TL-WR841N's has very good wireless performance making it a good choice for streaming HD video,  VoIP calls, and online gaming.  There is a WPS button which ensures WPA2 encryptions, minimzing crafty neighbors from sniping your bandwidth.

Wireless Speed & Range

TL-WR841N Range Review

The TP-LINK TL-WR841N gets wireless speeds that are 15X the speed and 5X the range of conventional 11g products.  All this range and  transmission rates up to 300Mbps.  Not too shabby.  We tested the wireless range across three floors of a newer home and had no issues with connectivity or packet loss.  Additionally there was no lag or speed issues.

As most folks know… WEP sucks for wireless security.  It is easy for a script kiddy to hack WEP and use your router in a matter of minutes.   Obviously the TL-WR841N provides both WPA/WPA2 encryption options and they are easy to configure/setup.  You can also use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup or WPS which allows users to almost instantly setup their security simply by pressing the “WPS” button automatically establishing a WPA2 secure connection.   Not only is this method of encryption quick to setup it also eliminates the need to remember another password.

IP QoS-Bandwidth Control

As I mentioned earlier… you aren’t going to find tons of features in this router… but you are going to find one of the more helpful ones.  The ability to limit/control bandwidth of your users.  Got a kid at home that is hogging too much of your internet speed streaming music videos at 1080P or a batch of coworkers streaming music all day?  Use the IP QoSf function to control network congestion and bandwidth abuse.

– 300Mbps wireless speed ideal for interruption sensitive applications like HD video streaming
– Two antennas greatly increase the wireless robustness and stability
– Easy wireless security encryption at a push of WPS button
– IP based bandwidth control allows administrators to determine how much bandwidth is allotted to each PC

All is all – it is hard to beat this well received Wireless N router for the price.  Get yours here for just $19.99.
