LEED Platinum homes are still pretty rare as the certification is a tough one to achieve. The home has to be incredibly efficient and energy friendly. The BioCasa 82 is Europe’s first LEED Platinum home. The BioCasa 82 looks small in the picture but it has over 5,000 sqft. The home was designed by Rosario Picciotto Architechts and build by Welldom builders. This LEED Platinum home gets 55 percent of its energy from renewable sources.
BioCasa 82 was built just outside of Motebelluna near Venice, Italy. The home scored 117 points out of a possible 136. The rating would have been higher if the home wasn’t so rural as the LEED standards tend to favor homes in urban settings. This beautiful home was build using 99 percent recyclable materials.
Power is aided by solar panels on the roof and there is also a geothermal heat pump system for heating and hot water. Rain water is stored for domestic and irrigating.
