Brita’s smart water pitcher, the Brita Infinity ($45), automatically orders filters when needed from Amazon Dash via WiFi. Pretty clever? I can’t get over the fact that it needs a new filter “about every 2 months or 40 gallons of water” and there is no mention of battery type of battery life. Not to mention the whole “smart gadget” issue.
I have mixed feelings about the Amazon Dash automatic ordering system. On one hand it is a bit creepy that my dishwasher can order more laundry detergent without even involving me. On the other hand, it is very convenient if managed properly. I would prefer that these “smart” Amazon Dash enabled gadgets just place the item in my Amazon shopping cart for me to pull the trigger on at a later date. I don’t want to get 5 separate small orders shipped when I can consolidate them. Better for the environment I imagine.
