Remember see-through game consoles? ROG does. To mark 20 years of Republic of Gamers, ASUS built the ROG Xbox Ally X20: a translucent black handheld with a gold internal frame, a bigger 7.4-inch OLED screen and AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme inside. It went on sale October 15 for $1,299, or $2,499 for a bundle with XREAL AR glasses and two cases.
The screen is the upgrade
The new ROG Nebula HDR panel is a 7.4-inch 1080p OLED at 120Hz with VRR, up to 1,400 nits peak HDR brightness and two HDR modes: Native for accurate color and Vivid for extra punch.
Controls rebuilt from the sticks up
- TMR joysticks with magnetic sensors to fight stick drift and a tight 3% dead zone
- Transforming D-pad that flips between 4-way and 8-way, no tools needed
- Face buttons that sit flush when fully pressed, with lighter actuation
- Rubberized grips and impulse triggers with haptic feedback
Under the hood
- Chip: AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.0GHz, 50 TOPS NPU)
- Memory and storage: 24GB LPDDR5X-8000, 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 SSD
- Battery: 80Wh, plus a new Travel Mode that caps charging at 65W for plane and train outlets
- Cooling: redesigned fans with 20% more airflow and 11% more heatsink fin area
- Software: Windows 11 with the Xbox full-screen experience and an updated Armoury Crate SE with remappable hot keys
The $2,499 collector bundle
The bundle adds ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses (a 171-inch virtual screen, 240Hz micro-OLED, 3DoF tracking), a custom dbrand Killswitch case with an exclusive skin and stick caps, and a Pelican Protector case that holds all of it. The regular ROG Xbox Ally ($599) and Ally X ($999) stay on sale.
