Solar backpacks and solar purses aren’t exactly a new idea. However, it is nice to see clean/functional solar handbags like the one pictured above from Diffus. The Diffus Solar Handbag manages to add the solar panels to the purse in a stylish way… they don’t just slap a big panel on the side of the bag like some of the other manufacturers.
Diffus partnered with designers from the Alexandra Institute and Swiss embroidery specialists Forster Rohne to integrate 100 miniaturized monocrystalline silicon ‘sequins’ on each bag.
This solar handbag can fully charge a smartphone if it gets enough sun during the day… and also charges an internal lithium ion battery pack if nothing is attached. During the night time a network of fiber optic lighting glows inside of the purse. For the first time in my life… I want a purse.
