These days we use the pen less and less. As a youngster, however, I was writing and drawing all of the time. Heck, we even had cases just to haul our writing instruments around. Nowadays we tend to reach to our smartphones, tablets, and computers to send messages. Gone are the days of eloquent penned letters and notes. Well, not totally but you get the idea.

So, with this obvious shift… a few things come to mind. One is that a penned note is more personal and can carry more weight. If you really need to get out of the doghouse you may want to reach for a pen and paper to get your point across. Additionally, as handwriting notes becomes more rare, should you really each for your $0.25 pen? It might be time to get a respectable pen, or two, for these unique situations where a written letter is the best choice.

Enter the Bourbon & Boots Handcrafted Wooden Pens ($60-$300). Some of my favorites include the “steampunk”, the “Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Barrel”, and the “Maker’s Mark Bourbon Barrel”. Unfortunately I can’t tell you if they “feel” or write well as I haven’t gotten my hands on one yet. Will update with a review if/when that happens.
