Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso Concept Is a Red-Hot Preview of Every Future Alfa

Alfa Romeo just rolled into the Paris Motor Show with a red, four-door, four-seat fastback called Cuorerosso – Italian for “red heart” – and the internet collectively said “mamma mia.” It is not a production car. Alfa calls it a design manifesto: the template for how every future Alfa is going to look. If that is the plan, we are in.

Necessary Beauty, Giulia-sized

Designed at Alfa’s Centro Stile in Turin under a philosophy it calls “Bellezza Necessaria” (Necessary Beauty), the shape was sculpted first with no wheels, windows or details – pure proportions. The result is 4.70 m long, 1.98 m wide and just 1.33 m tall on a 2.93 m wheelbase, which is basically current-Giulia territory. There is a low pointed nose with the classic scudetto grille, slit headlights that look like they are glaring at you, and a backlit Biscione crest that pulses like a heartbeat. Out back: a chopped “coda tronca” tail, a nod to classic Alfas and good for a claimed 0.28 drag coefficient.

Rear-hinged doors and no trunk

Open it up and the rear doors are rear-hinged, swinging out opposite the fronts for a huge opening into a 2+2 cabin. Very concept car. Also very concept car: no conventional trunk. Do not expect either on a showroom floor.

The gadget part: a cockpit that morphs

Inside, the Cuorerosso uses steer-by-wire (no physical link between wheel and tires) and a flat-top steering wheel so you can actually see the gauges. Those gauges are a modern take on Alfa’s “cannocchiale” telescope binnacle: two round screens show speed and revs in normal driving, then merge into one big central dial – inspired by the 1960s 33 Stradale – when you switch to sportier modes or pick up the pace. Alfa says this setup, built on Stellantis’ STLA SmartCockpit tech, could make it to production. And yes, there are real physical knobs for audio and climate on the console. Thank you.

A V6 heart, with a hybrid assist

Here is the part Alfisti really care about. The concept’s spec sheet sketches the next Quadrifoglio: a hybridized version of the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, Q4 all-wheel drive, a torque-converter automatic and a carbon fiber driveshaft, in a car weighing around 1,750 kg. No horsepower figure yet. Alfa says future models will run on flexible multi-energy platforms with mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full EV options too – a big shift from its old all-electric-in-Europe plan.

So can you buy one?

Nope. Cuorerosso is a one-off concept, on display on the Alfa Romeo stand in Hall 4 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles through October 18. But Alfa says its look will spread across future models up to 4.7 m long – and a new Giulia, Stelvio and a Giulietta successor are all in the works. If the next Giulia looks even half this good, Ferrari should be a little nervous.
