Another day, another Apple speedbump. This one, however, is pretty big as the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro now comes with an Intel 8-core (9th-generation) processor. In real-world tests that means it should be two times faster than the previous 4-core version. Take that and mix in, the Retina display, SSD hard drives, the T2 security chip, Radeon graphics cards, and all-day battery life and you have yourself a very capable laptop. Very capable and very expensive as well. [

I have spent quite a bit of money making my homes lighting situation a bit smarter. I am an Apple guy, mainly because I value my privacy, so naturally, I went with solutions that were Apple HomeKit enabled. My house is a bit older and doesn’t have neutral wires run, which means most of my light switches are the Lutron Caseta PD-6WCL. They work great (I have given up on the sh*tty Leviton switches).

I was always intrigued by the Philips Hue bulbs but never pulled the trigger because they have a huge flaw. If anyone turns off the light switch, which people do all the time, the bulb is no longer accessible on the network and goes from “smart” to totally “dumb”. Because of this, I opted to replace my dumb lightswitches with the Lutron Caseta switches. This route takes a bit more work, but ultimately it works very well and I don’t have to worry about the “Philips Hue problem”. Read on for details. (more…)

The famous Grumpy Cat has died a young death at just 7-years old. Grumpy Cat had complications from a urinary tract infection. I think it is time that the internet knows Grumpy Cat’s real name – Tardar Sauce. You will be missed Tardar Sauce. “Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome,” the family said in a statement posted to Twitter. “She passed away peacefully...

McDonald's Self-Ordering Kiosk

I probably shouldn’t be eating at McDonald’s in the first place, but on occasion, it hits the spot. With that said, I typically worry about the healthiness and quality of the food. Guess I should be worried about the LCD ordering touchscreens. Yikes. In every McDonald’s tested, these self-ordering LCD screens had fecal bacteria on them. Read on for the details. (more…)

Last night Tesla unveiled their latest creation – the Tesla Model Y. In what looks like an offspring of the Model 3 and X, the Y is aimed at the mid-sized crossover SUV market. The interior is similar to the Model 3 with clean and elegant lines and few distractions outside of the single 15-inch screen. There is seating for up to seven people, 66 cubic feet of cargo space, and range options from 230 to 300 miles depending on the specific model. The 0-60 times...

Volkswagen - Autosalon Genf 2019

Apparently Tesla put the entrenched car makers on notice and they all woke up from a deep slumber. Now, just about every car manufacturer is working on an EV. In Volkswagen’s case they are working on quite a few.  Most will be… boring. This one, however, isn’t boring at all and is dubbed the ID. BUGGY.

This electric VW dune buggy will be based on their new modular electric vehicle platform called MEB. This electric buggy is inspired by the VW-powered buggies of the 60’s and 80’s. The ID. BUGGY will be a rear wheel drive with a 62 KwH battery with a 155 mile range. More pictures of this electric VW buggy after the break. (more…)

GoPro just announced a pretty compelling offer for users of their cameras, unlimited video storage with GoPro Plus ($4.99 per month). The previous GoPro Plus plan allowed  subscribers to upload unlimited photos and up to 35 hours of video (about 250Gb). The worst part of the old plan was that the videos were transcoded and stored at a lower bit rate. Not anymore. The...

Lilium Jet Air Taxi
Over the last few years we have seen many attempts at VTOL concepts and personal airplanes. Few have been as smooth as the Lilium Jet Air Taxi. This cool little guy can take off vertically and fly at speeds up to 186 mph (same number for range). The Lilium airplane was originally going to be sold as a private aircraft but will now be used for ride sharing only (think Uber of the air). The Lilium Jet uses 36 individual electric fans for vertical and horizontal propulsion and should be on the market in the next few years. Video of the Lilium Jet in action after the break. (more…)

It looks like the 2014 prototype electric motorcycle is finally making it to production in 2019. Pricing and specs are still a mystery with the Harley-Davidson LiveWire. There is no gasoline used as this is an all-electric powertrain with a magnetic electric motor mounted low in the frame. I am not sure this will appeal to Harley-Davidson riders as they typically like to be the loudest and most annoying guys in...

Impossible US-1 Drone Clear

Impossible Aerospace claims they have a drone hitting the market in Q4 of 2018 with a two hour flight time. The main structure of the US-1 is full of batteries which is why they have longer than average flight times.

The Impossible US-1 ($7,500 for basic and $9,500 for thermal) comes in a few flavors. Most of the differences are around the camera type (FLIR).

Flight details and telemetry are still unknown but we do have some specs. Details after the break.  (more…)
