Taking License Plate Recognition To The Next Level
We live in a surveillance happy society, but most people have no idea just how deep the rabbit hole goes… Recently I went on a ride-along with a friend from the local police department, and being crazy about all things gadget, I immediately spotted several police cars sporting some black gizmos on their roofs. Turns […]
SmartLock – Shoots Dye On Would Be Thief
I grew up in Florida and 3 out of my 4 beach cruiser bikes stolen… no joke. The initial shock of coming out and finding your bike, which was locked up, gone sucks big time. Finally a smart lock… appropriately named the SmartLock. The SmartLock works like a normal lock in that you wrap it […]
Duplicate Keys From Just A Picture
The kids you used to pick on in high school are at it again… computer scientist from the University of San Diego have create software that will duplicate a key from a photo. The photo doesn’t even need to be that good. Yikes. The system, named Sneakey, uses "teleduplication–extracting a key’s complete and precise bitting […]
Remote Control Car With Built-In Camera And Laser Tag
We have seen some pretty cool remote control gadgets over the years… but this one is up there on the cool factor. You can use it to spy on folks… and then play laser tag with your little brother. The car is priced fairly at $90… and gets cheaper if you buy more. You can […]

The C-Quester 3 by U-Boat Works is one bad lil personal submarine that is actually available for sale, unlike the hard to find Seabreacher. Although, not cheap at around $575K the C-Quester is both a boat and a submarine. The unit can dive to depths of 100m and can stay under water for six hours.
Big Toys For Big Brother In UK
Friend of mine send me this pic of some anal retentive British Defense Ministry chap playing with what looks like a hover-copter. Apparently having Mother England covered with static surveillance cameras is not enough – time to upgrade the toys. At first look, this reminds me of one of those crappy remote hover choppers that […]
Robot Sub Competition Winners Announced
Although I was deeply disappointed at the absence of robot sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads, the 11th International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition was still awesome. Robotic subs competed in a variety of tasks showing off their technological prowess. This year a team from the University of Maryland emerged victorious unseating the […]
Hide Your Valuables – Hidden Safe In Filing Cabinet
I am one of the most paranoid types… I always think of where people will look when I am hiding something of value… and I always worry that my small safe (not bolted down) can just be picked up and walked away with. So, I like when I see “smart” ideas like this one by […]
