IBM Seeks Patent For Intelligent Traffic Signals

IBM has applied for a patent for a high tech traffic light system.  The IBM traffic light system will know how long the light will be red and will send a signal to your car to turn off the engine.  The system will communicate with waiting vehicles to stop and start the engines eliminating wasted engine idling.  If the light isn't going to be red for very long it will just keep your motor running.
