LCDs Could Power Your SmartPhone

Polarizing Organic Photovoltaic Film

One of the biggest drains on your SmartPhone battery is the beautiful LCD screen.  While that won't change, some smart folks at UCLA may have found a way to charge your phone via the LCD screen.

A group of UCLA engineers led by Yang Yang, a professor of materials science, have found a way to make the polarized LCD sheets into photovoltaic cells.  This means the front screen on your phone will have a built PV panel that recaptures energy from your gadgets backlight.
