Worlds_Largest_Solar_Plant

Big news, today the world's largest solar plant is going live.  Some quick specs on the massive size of this Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System:

  • 300,000 computer-controlled mirrors
  • Each mirror is 10-feet wide by 7-feet tall
  • Light is focused on a 459-foot tower
  • Three total arrays make 392 megawatts of power
  • The trio takes up 5-square miles
  • The solar system will power 140.000 California homes
  • The system will avoid 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year (equivalent to 72,000 vehicles)

Who's job is it to clean all of those mirrors?  They have to get dusty, right?  Some more amazing pictures of this solar plant after the break.
