Google Chrome 69 Just Got Creepier

Google Chrome 69

Starting this off by saying that there are plenty of Google products that I like very much. I am an avid user of the Nest products, search engine, email, etc…  That doesn’t mean I won’t be looking for alternatives if they don’t keep turning up the creepiness.

Google’s latest bout of creepiness and overreach are related to the latest version of Chrome, Chrome 69. First of all, Google is moving towards making logging-in for normal browsing almost a requirement.  Secondly, when using Chrome 69, if you log into any of Google’s internet services (Gmail or YouTube for example), information like your personal browsing history is uploaded to Google. This is because of a fundamental change in the way Google handles logins, if you log into one of their other services they are passing that through to the browser. Not cool.

Forget about private browsing using Google Chrome at the public library. I feel like Google can’t help themselves, like a drug addict – in this case addicted to users data. I won’t be using their browser now and I am sure plenty of others will be following suit. Just because Google is the giant they are today doesn’t mean that will be the case in 5-10 years, especially if they keep running over peoples privacy.
