Microsoft Windows Vista on a diet
The bloated Microsoft Vista operating system gets a personal trainer to shed some fat. A free software tool created by Dino Nuhagic called vLite promises to slim the pig down a bit. If you are already dating the chubby Vista don’t get too excited. The software only allows users to remove Vista features PRIOR to installation. Some of the items that can be removed are Windows Photo Viewer, MSN Installer, SlideShow, Wallpapers, and other utilities. The vLite software is also a one-way ticket, your pre-installation changes are permanent. Spend some time thinking about what you can and can’t live without before pushing the GO button.
Windows XP only weighed in at 1.5GB’s (of required disk space) and Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate editions require 10X the space (15GB’s of space?!?!) At least Microsoft (NSDG: MSFT) officials have openly expressed concerns as well. While speaking last year at the University of Illinois, Eric Traut (Engineer for Microsoft) stated the operating system has become bloated.
“A lot of people think of Windows as this large, bloated operating system. That may be a fair characterization,” said Traut.
